The Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja expressed her gratitude to the Uganda Rural Development and Training Programme (URDT) for stimulating development among people through orienting them in mindset change.

The Prime Minister was meeting with leaders from Kagadi district at the Uganda Rural Development and Training Program campus in Kagadi town council on Saturday, September 30, in preparation for the forthcoming Agricultural Expo slated for October 6, 7, and 8, 2023, in Kagadi, Kibaale, and Kakumiro districts, respectively.

The agribusiness shows will bring together small-holder farmers, large-scale farmers, farmer associations, agricultural researchers, and agribusiness companies to exchange ideas on how to improve production, productivity, and profitability.

The Expo is occurring at a time when the government has disbursed 100 million per Parish under the “Parish Development Model” (PDM), a development strategy devised under Uganda’s National Development Plan (NDP III). It aims to deepen the decentralization process, uplift household incomes, and enhance the quality of life for Ugandan households still reliant on subsistence farming.

Prime Minister Nabbanja said that URDT has created a free space for district technical personnel to learn the PDM management information system and also educate the public on development strategies through Kagadi, Kibaale Community Radio.

She expressed her gratitude by thanking Dr. Mwalimu Musheshe, for aiding development in the country and training the district technical staff in computer skills.”

She, however, pledged to ask Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, the Minister for ICT and National Guidance, to focus on approving Kagadi Kibaale Community Television for broadcasting. She mentioned that Minister Chris Baryomunsi would be in Kagadi district on the 6th of October to address the long-awaited dream of KKC TV.

This decision came after the Kagadi LC5 Chairperson expressed his concerns to Premier Nabbanja regarding the delayed start of the Television. He said, “Rt. Hon. Minister, the delayed start of the television has significantly hindered the widespread dissemination of information about Government programs and other developmental activities to the public. We need your intervention to make this happen,” he requested.

This created anxiety among locals who contributed money to start up the television. Their dream was turned down by the government, which failed to connect it on air despite the installation of all the required machines.” He explained

Ndibwami was joined by Dr. Mwalimu Musheshe, the Vice Chancellor of the African Rural University (ARU), who also supported the move. He stated that both the president and locals had done their part in equipping and building the media house, but officials from the government delayed the start of the television.

On the topic of development, Mwalimu applauded the Prime Minister for choosing URDT to host the wonderful occasion as the district prepares to host the Agricultural Expo slated for the 6th of October at Kagadi Model grounds in Kagadi district.

“I am happy that you are convening a meeting to discuss developmental issues, which are our core value of promoting sustainable development in the community. We look forward to supporting activities that create change in society,” Dr. Mwalimu asserted

Jovrine Kyomukama Kalisa, the Deputy National Coordinator of PDM, said that URDT has made a significant impact in enabling district staff to be more effective, thus applauding the efforts of Dr. Mwalimu.
